Transportation Planning Studies – In Progress
Bicycle planning for the communities of Cambria, Carterville, Crainville, Herrin, and Murphysboro – Although the study locations are primarily focused within the jurisdictional boundaries of the communities, connectivity to existing regional trail networks such as the Crab Orchard Greenway, as well as connectivity to proposed future trail networks are to be included in this planning effort. Connectivity between the City of Murphysboro and Lake Murphysboro State Park and to Kinkaid Lake will be included in the planning study analysis and effort.
Bicycle planning for the communities of Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, and West Frankfort – Although this bicycle planning study will largely be focused within the jurisdictional boundaries of the communities, connectivity to existing and proposed regional trail networks such as the existing mountain bike trails at Pyramid State Recreational Area and to the fairgrounds of the Du Quoin State Fair will be included.
Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Assessment for the City of Sesser – The purpose of this effort will be to assess the Franklin Avenue corridor, Illinois State Route 154 (IL 154) from Park Street (IL 148) to Maple Street. The assessment will identify challenges to VRU mobility, connectivity, and accessibility in the public right of way to include sidewalks, crosswalks (marked and unmarked), curb cuts, curb ramps, and accessible parking spaces to comply with ADA regulations ensuring people using wheelchairs can deploy lifts or ramps.
Jackson-Union Counties Regional Port District Feasibility
Study – The goal of this study is to evaluate the legal and fiscal authority of the Port District, with a focus on addressing current infrastructure gaps, regional transportation networks, and potential economic impacts. Additionally, the study will explore all potential uses of the port authority’s legislated powers to support and enhance regional economic development.
Greater Egypt Safe Routes to School Plan – This project will evaluate K-12 schools in the Greater Egypt Planning Area (Excluding the former SIMPO area) in order to identify barriers to
safe travel for all people walking, biking, and rolling to school; and to provide recommendations to improve safety along these routes.
