Solid Waste Planning

Under the Illinois Solid Waste and Recycling Act (SWPRA), Illinois counties are required to create a County Solid Waste Plan every five years. These plans are required to include:

1. A recycling program
2. Description of the origin and types of waste generated
3. Facilities for currently handling waste within the county
4. Description of programs planned to handle waste over the next 20 years
5. Evaluation of the environmental, energy, life cycle, and economic advantages and disadvantages of the programs
6. Schedule for implementing the proposals
7. Potential location for sites necessary to implement the proposals
8. Identity of the governmental entity responsible for implementation

Greater Egypt assisted the five counties with developing their Solid Waste Plans. The process included conducting a local solid waste and needs assessment, survey of stakeholders, and update to the previous county plan.  Planning and meeting information can be found below for each plan.

These Plans were updated in accordance with 415 ILCS 12 (Solid Waste Hauling and Recycling Program Act) and 415 ILCS 15 (Solid Waste Planning and Recycling Act) and have been fully funded through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Solid Waste Planning Grant Program.
