Transportation Planning Studies – Underway Soon!
Bicycle planning for the communities of Cambria, Carterville, Crainville, Herrin, and Murphysboro. Although the study locations are primarily focused within the jurisdictional boundaries of the communities, connectivity to existing regional trail networks such as the Crab Orchard Greenway, as well as connectivity to proposed future trail networks are to be included in this planning effort. Connectivity between the City of Murphysboro and Lake Murphysboro State Park and to Kinkaid Lake will be included in the planning study analysis and effort.
Bicycle planning for the communities of Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, and West Frankfort. Although this bicycle planning study will largely be focused within the jurisdictional boundaries of the communities, connectivity to existing and proposed regional trail networks such as the existing mountain bike trails at Pyramid State Recreational Area and to the fairgrounds of the Du Quoin State Fair will be included.
Transportation Planning Studies – Currently Underway
The i5Group, LLC, is currently in the process of creating bicycle transportation plans for the southern Illinois cities of Benton and Mount Vernon. The purpose of this study is to develop two bicycle master plans (one each for Benton and for Mt. Vernon) to include at a minimum the following:
- an inventory of existing bicycle facilities (on-street bike lanes, bike paths, etc.),
- an analysis of existing roadways capable of accommodating bicycle facilities, and
- recommendations of specific long- and short-term bicycle infrastructure projects.
The individual plans shall include the following:
- a community engagement process to obtain public input,
- a prioritized listing of recommended improvements, and
- an implementation plan providing guidance to City decision-makers.
The individual plans shall provide necessary and sufficient information to assist in the development of bicycle networks. The purpose and need of these networks are to expand access to goods and services, to increase connectivity and mobility choices, and to enhance economic development.
