Greater Egypt provides assistance to local governments for Hazard Mitigation Grants awarded by FEMA. These grants help to mitigate the effects of natural disasters such as flooding and earthquakes.

Past projects in our region have included the acquisition of the Reed Station Mobile Home Park and the relocation of the West Frankfort Water Treatment Plant.

Multi-Hazard Mitigation Planning

Greater Egypt assists local counties with updates to their Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plans (MHMP). These plans are used by the county to implement projects designed to minimize the loss of property and life in the event of a natural disaster.

Beginning in 2021, Greater Egypt began assisting the five counties with updates to the 2015 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plans. Planning efforts will consist of multiple meetings with various tasks. A short description of each meeting can be found below. Local governments, businesses, and other entities are encouraged to be a part of the planning process.

 

Meeting 1: Introduce multi-hazard mitigation planning and identify hazards

Meeting 2: Present draft risk assessment and modeling results of identified disasters

Meeting 3: Prioritize mitigation strategies and propose projects

Meeting 4: Draft plan review
