About Us
The Greater Egypt Regional Planning Commission was established in 1961 to “provide a plan for the general purpose of guiding and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted, and harmonious development of the Franklin, Jackson, Perry, and Williamson County region, and of public improvement and utilities therein for the purpose of best-promoting health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity, efficiency and economy in the process of development and the general welfare of the said region.” In 1967, Jefferson County was added to the Greater Egypt Region, and the Commission was re-established as the Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission (Greater Egypt). During the re-establishment of the Commission in 1967, Greater Egypt received designation as an Economic Development District by the federal Economic Development Administration.
