Multi-Hazard Mitigation Planning

Greater Egypt also provides assistance to local governments to complete Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plans (MHMP). These plans are then used by the county to implement projects designed to minimize the loss of property and life in the event of a natural disaster. Greater Egypt assists organizations in the region with applications for funding hazard mitigation projects.

Beginning in 2014, Greater Egypt assisted Southern Illinois University- Carbondale (SIUC) with the updates to the 2009 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plans for Greater Egypt’s five-county region. Planning efforts consisted of multiple meetings with various agendas:

Meeting 1: Introduction of the MHMP and identification of hazards to be included in the plan

Meeting 2: SIU presented draft risk assessment and modeling results of identified disasters

Meeting 3: Prioritization of mitigation strategies and proposed projects

Meeting 4: Draft plan review
