Greater Egypt’s regional planning efforts include two main components: Water Quality Management and Hazard Mitigation.
Since the 1970’s, Greater Egypt has been designated the Areawide Water Quality Planning agency for Southern Illinois. Through grants awarded by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Greater Egypt strives to protect the water quality of the region. This is achieved by implementing the three following programs:
- Watershed-based Planning
- Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program (VLMP)
- Nonpoint Source Pollution Control and Education
Greater Egypt works with local governments to implement Hazard Mitigation grants awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These projects benefit local municipalities by mitigating the effects of natural disasters.
