Greater Egypt’s regional environmental planning efforts include: Hazard Mitigation, Solid Waste Planning, and Water Quality Management.

Hazard Mitigation Planning

Greater Egypt works with local governments to implement Hazard Mitigation grants awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These projects benefit local municipalities by mitigating the effects of natural disasters.

 

Solid Waste Planning

Greater Egypt assists local counties with creating Solid Waste Plans. These plans are required by Illinois EPA and are designed to address waste and recycling within the county.

 

Water Quality Management

Since the 1970’s, Greater Egypt has been designated the Areawide Water Quality Planning agency for Southern Illinois.  Through grants awarded by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Greater Egypt strives to protect the water quality of the region.  This is achieved by implementing the three following programs:
